Opportunity Gaps

Many youth in Korea’s social welfare system forgo higher education due to financial burdens. Private academies (hagwons) are widely attended by those who can afford them, further widening the education gap and making academic competition even tougher.

Types of Scholarships

We offer a range of scholarships to support children and young adults.

Hagwon Scholarships

Hagwons are private after-school academies common in Korea that offer academic tutoring and extracurricular activities. Attending a hagwon often gives students a significant academic advantage. Our hagwon scholarship helps children’s homes enroll students, ensuring they receive the extra support they need to succeed.

Korean College Scholarships

KKOOM provides scholarships to young adults from KKOOM-supported children’s homes who have aged out of the welfare system and are pursuing college or vocational training. With support from our donors, we’ve funded 20 students at schools like Gumi College, Gyeongbuk Science University, and Busan National University.

What Your Support Makes Possible

$20,000

Since 2013, we have provided over $20,000 in college scholarships for young adults who aged out of Korea’s social welfare system to pursue a higher education degree.

20 scholars

Since 2007, KKOOM has provided tuition to 20 pre-school scholars (aged 2-3 year olds) to get an early start to their preschool education.

$100,000

Starting in 2025, KKOOM is funding hagwon scholarships, up to $100,000 for the first time for over 50 children at two children’s homes.

U.S.-Based Scholarships

Launched in 2024, KKOOM’s U.S. College Scholarship Program gives young adults who have aged out of Korea’s social welfare system the chance to study in the United States. This program helps expand their academic and career horizons, providing them with more opportunities to dream big.

Pre-School Scholarships

Until recently, the Korean government did not fund preschool education for children under four years old. Since 2007, KKOOM has filled this gap by funding preschool scholarships. However, with recent government policy changes, this need has significantly decreased.
