Meet Kunhye, Age 14

"I want to be an international lawyer, and if not that, maybe a back dancer for Britney Spears..."

Kunhye is in 8th grade at an all girl's school in Gumi. She is one of the brightest students in her class, and like may young Koreans, she excels at computer games, especially "Studio Audtion," which is a Korean computer version of the popular "Dance Dance Revolution." She lives in Hwapyeong-jip or "peace house" at Samsungwon, the orphanage in Gumi, South Korea.

During fourth, fifth, and sixth grades in elementary school, Kunhye was able to attend an after-school academy for extra study in English, math, social studies, and science. However, due to financial constrains, Kunhye was not able to continue going to academy when she entered middle school.

The Korean school system is very rigorous, and students who expect to go to college study from late elementary school at these after-school academies to get the supplemental education they need to go to good high schools and in turn to get in to good colleges.

A KKOOM volunteer recently asked Kunhye what she wanted to be when she grew up and she responded, "I want to be an international lawyer, and if not that, maybe a back dancer for Britney Spears."

You can help Kunhye reach for her dreams by contributing to this year's campaign. Your donation will children in orphanages get the after-school supplemental education they need to succeed in high school and beyond.
